Brut Rosé Cuvee NV
We see lifted strawberry and Raspberry aromatics and flavours, a delicate structure and a beautiful pale pink colour. Adding to this are fresh melon and citrus characters, mid-palate texture and fresh acidity. In the glass the wine has a lovely pale pink colour and fine bead. The palate is fresh and long with subtle texture and a lively balance.
Excellent on its own, we are enjoying this wine with Salmon canapes, Fresh Wairarapa Crayfish, or summer fruits
Vineyard
2018 was an excellent vintage at Matahiwi with above average temperatures, healthy vines and a good balanced crop. The fruit was harvested nice and early in pristine condition with good acidity and ripe flavours. This Brut Rose is made from a mix of Pinot Noir clones sourced from the Matahiwi Estate vineyard in the Wairarapa, which is sited on free draining stony gravels north of Masterton. The crop was kept low and well exposed, to ensure even fruit ripening and optimal flavour development.
Winemaking
A blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, 65/35 mix, harvested and immediately pressed off with only Free run and light press juice used, to give a fine low phenolic juice with a pale pink colour. Fermented in stainless steel at moderate temperatures to balance texture with fruit expression. The base wines were aged on full lees through the winter with regular stirring to build texture and yeast autolytic characters. After blending, and colour adjustment with a tiny addition of red Pinot Noir the wine went through secondary fermentation using the Charmat tank fermentation method before bottling.
